Hi Chris Below is some information which I hope will help you out. Best of luck and enjoy the class  regards Yvonne

Hi Chris for your first card chose a very simple design as picture below

  This is a DL card

Take a A4 card and trim 10cm away. fold card in half to form Double length card = DL

To make toppers

Take a contrasting coloured piece of card and trim to 5cm square the piece of card you cut away trim to 4 cm Squares mount the squares together to form your matting layers, them you can add embellishments or small scraps to make your toppers, when you add your toppers place the top one on, then the bottom on, and lastly the middle this will help you to get even spaces between the toppers. Finish off with a peel off greeting.

Or try this one

C6 card which is an A4 piece of card cut in half which is now a A5 piece of card and folded in halt to make a C6 card.

As you can see from the picture I put a strip of pretty paper on one half of card, choose 2 matting layers and added a decoupage image, but you could just put a flat image to make it easier. I will also send you simple card making instructions which you can print and pass around,

Have all your kits ready for the 30 children make about 5 samples to pass around the room, do a demonstration in a step by step method, with all the students at your table, let them  work in groups of about 6 so they can share tools, you will need Glue, Scissors a Selection of Peel-offs and foam pads for each table so check and see what the school have,

 best of luck Yvonne

There is a bit more information below.

Hi Yvonne Can you help me with pricing

I have been card making for about a year, and make cards for family and friends, however I have  never charged and would'nt know what to charge, I really enjoy my new hobby but seem to be spending a fortune on products, I can't keep giving my cards away.can you help me with pricing how much I should charge, thanks Mary O Connell

Hi Mary hope this helps

Pricing

Don’t be afraid to charge for your hand made cards, Card making can be a very expensive hobby as most of you know its addictive, we card makers want everything we see on Create and craft or QVC and if you haven’t got the latest gadget, you think your missing out, so to help pay for this very expensive hobby start to charge for your cards and put the money in a little box in your craft bag and then every time you want something new pay with your card money and not the house keeping.

Here is what I charge

C5 card from €5.00 to €7.00 depending on what I have done to the card ie; if I have personalised it with names dates and a special poem I get €7.00

C6 Card from €2.50 to €3.00

C5 Pop-out card €7.00 to €10.00

Bookatrix card  boxed  are €15.00 but I do use the nicest pearlscent card and miniature bouquets.

DL Cards €3.00 to €4.00

I don't think I will every make money from my hobby but charging should help me keep the credit card down. Happy Crafting everyone.

Card Making Instructions

For matting and layering

These are the pieces of backing card or paper we use to make a topper.

Decided want Embellishment you want to put on your card look at the size of it, if it’s 6cm long by 4cm wide your first matting and layering cards should be no more the 2/3cm bigger, other wise the embellishment will be lost on the layer. You can choose to have 2 or 3 layers for your topper.

Embellishment 6cm long 4cm wide

First layer of topper would then be 8cm by 6cm

Follower by the second layer 9cm by 7cm and so on.

                  C6 Card

Simply stick the larger of the two layers to the top centre of your C5 or C6 card with glue or double sided tape, and then stick the smaller one central on top, your card is now ready to add decoupage or an embellishments.

For Backing papers

The papers are normally A4 which is 30 centimetres across

If wrapping your card with paper, turn the sheet landscape and cut the sheet in 3 giving you

3 x 10 centimetres strips.

You will need about 8 centimetres for the front of you card leaving you 2 centimetres to wrap around the back, finish off with a peel off strip.

 Tri Fold Card

Is an A4 card scored on the A4 Tri-fold line twice giving you 3 equal size folds.

Getting Colour combinations right

When matting and layering your layers to make a topper for your card, my advice is to look closely at the colour of the embellishment or decoupage you want to use, pick up the colours in the embellishment (example in picture) I have used a lilac and white bouquet, so the colours in my topper are lavender, Blue and white with a touch of silver in the writing,

Using the colour wheel above you will see that varying shades of the one colour work best,

but contrasting the colour with the opposite colour work equally as well.

My favourite opposite colours are Orange and Navy

Silver and Gold. Or Purple and Lime Green

Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour combinations and Have fun

Happy Crafting Yvonne
